The 5 Best Parks In Mississauga For Families

Cooksville Hyundai is proud to be a business that operates in the Cooksville neighbourhood of Mississauga. Although the city is near to Toronto, there are still a lot of great places to see and things to do in Mississauga!

That's why, as part of our civic pride, Cooksville Hyundai wants to mention a few of the must-visit places within Mississauga. More than a city that plays host to an international airport or Amazon headquarters, Mississauga has plenty of places to enjoy and activities for people of all interests and age groups. It's just a matter of knowing where to go and where to look, and with that, we have a few suggestions.

Rattray Marsh

Rattray Marsh is one of the best trails around. If you are looking for a place to enjoy nature, walk, take photographs, or take your dog, Rattray Marsh is a great place to explore. It is also home to some great views of downtown Toronto.

As the name suggests, this is a marshland conservation area, but there are boardwalks for people to safely traverse in comfort, plenty of photo opportunities, benches, and even access points to the Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail. This park is a highlight in Mississauga and a popular destination for families and nature lovers in the spring as the plants start to bud and flower.

Port Credit

For people who are looking for something a little more urban to do, Port Credit is a great neighbourhood to explore. Located right on the shores of Lake Ontario, visitors will find an especially great view of the water. Close to the water, you will find a great selection of restaurants, stores, and kid-friendly play areas. The quaint experience of visiting this village on the lake and seeing the architecture is definitely worth exploration.

Depending on the time of year that you visit, Port Credit plays host to a lot of different festivals and other events. You should always check to see what might be happening here, especially if you have kids.

Jack Darling Memorial Park

This is another park that has the luxury of being set along Lake Ontario, and it's a great place for the family to go to when the weather warms up, and things are coming into bloom. Depending on the water and weather conditions, swimming is allowed in this park, and it's got some great views of the water, and the famous Toronto skyline is situated in the distance.

There are plenty of things to do here, including a playground that makes it one of the more kid-friendly places in Mississauga. There are picnic areas if you’re looking to enjoy a meal in the great outdoors, and if you have a dog, one of the largest fenced-in, off-leash dog parks in the province is located here so you can let your four-legged friend cut loose and get in a good run.

Culham Trail

For people who are looking for something off the shore and more inland, Culham Trail is a sizable path that takes people on a meandering foot journey. Located not far from the University of Toronto campus in Mississauga, the trail is within the city, but at the same time affords some great exposure to nature and a view of the river.

While you won't see it in the spring, during the autumn, salmon spawn in the Credit River. It is known to be a good place for people who are walking or biking to congregate and view the spectacle. The trail is set among some other very interesting sights, including the remains of an abandoned home and some forest clearings.

Glen Erin Trail

This is the definition of an easy walk in case you're looking for Mississauga trails that aren't too demanding and where you can relax. This trail is a great choice if you plan to go on an outing with children or seniors. The trail itself is heavily used, especially in the mornings and late afternoons by local school children using it as a shortcut to avoid the heavier traffic of the roads. You'll find trees, paved paths, and a relaxing stroll or leisurely bike ride if that's what you're looking for. You can also bring your dog here, though the usual rules about leashing and cleaning up after animals apply.

Erindale Park

A sizable park that’s near the Credit River, this is another area that’s filled with open fields and long trails for walking. But it is the proximity to the river and the fact that trout and salmon can be found here that make it a great spot for those looking for somewhere to fish. This is the biggest park in the city and a popular destination for people looking for walking trails or holding outdoor events like BBQs. For the children, there’s also a playground area, so it’s another good choice for people who want to enjoy the warm weather in Mississauga.

St. Lawrence Park

One of the more recent additions to the Mississauga trails, this park has proximity to both the Waterfront Trail as well as Port Credit, so it’s strategically placed. This is another location for people looking for something more scenic with an easy trail to walk, as well as paved surfaces that encourage walking and biking.

Because it’s on the shore, there’s a nice view of the lake, but children can also enjoy a small playground area. There are also many benches throughout the trail to take in the view. One of the main attractions of the park is a perfectly positioned gazebo that is a great photo op or just a place to take in the beauty of Lake Ontario on a warm spring day.

When you’re in Mississauga, take some time out to enjoy everything that this city has to offer. There’s plenty of shopping, sights, and nature to take in now that spring is here, and the weather is warming up.
